Ruth Slaughter is the divisional
director for Community Outreach, Prevention and Education
Programs at PROTOTYPES. The programs in her division include
HIV/AIDS prevention and PROTOTYPES WARN, The Women's and AIDS
Risk Network, one of the first national AIDS prevention/education
efforts to target women at risk for HIV infection. Before
joining PROTOTYPES, Ms. Slaughter spent a number of years
in community organizing to increase services to hard-to-reach
populations. Ms. Slaughter also is responsible for researching
and writing the grant for the first government funded Domestic
Violence Program. Ms. Slaughter has been a recipient of numerous
awards, most notably in the year 1997 - the presentation of
Sabbatical Award for Community Leadership from the Durfee
Foundation and the presentation of the 1st Vision Award for
leadership in Domestic Violence from the California Department
of Health Services.
