Ms. Taylor is currently the
director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem School. Ms. Taylor
began dancing at the age of seven at the Mayfair Academy of
Fine Arts in Chicago, Illinois. Subsequently, she received
scholarships to study with the Joffrey Ballet, Pennsylvania
Ballet and Dance Theatre of Harlem School. In 1984, she joined
Dance Theatre of Harlem’s company and became a principal
in 1993. In 1992, Ms. Taylor had her Broadway debut in Carousel
and went on to perform in two other Tony award winning musicals,
The Lion King and Aida. As an original cast member of all
three shows, Ms. Taylor had the great pleasure of participating
in the cast albums, two of which received Grammy nominations,
as well as performing for the 1993 and 1997 Tony Awards. As
a teacher at Bergen Technical Academy, High School of The
Performing Arts, New York University, and Alvin Ailey she
had the pleasure of sharing her knowledge with her students.
Ms Taylor has taught master classes to children and adults
throughout the United States and abroad and ran a performing
arts institute in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1995.
