Tommy Walker is recognized as an up and coming community activist in Los Angeles . Through his mobilization efforts and working with others, Mr. Walker, along with other community activists established the Cease Fire Committee of Los Angeles. This organizations objective is to reach out to communities across Los Angeles through activism, resources and encouragement to stamp-out gang violence that so often leads to murder. Mr. Walker grew up in Venice , California and he continues to work closely with the youth in the Venice and Greater Los Angeles area. He is Founder and President of the Westside Youth Association, which is an organization that works with youth through athletics, mentoring and academics. Mr. Walker along with the parents and community stakeholders are dedicated to investing time into the futures of the youth; so that they can reach their full potential and one day be successful and give back to their community. Through studying the word of God, Mr. Walker believes that he is able to better understand the constant changes that are occurring within the South Los Angeles communities.
Mr. Walker is devoted to making a difference in Los Angeles . He holds several certifications and continues to provide services in the following areas: HIV & AIDS pre and post counseling, Free N One Alcohol and Drug Abuse counseling, Gang Intervention counseling and mediation, Case Management and counseling for disadvantaged citizens of Los Angeles and he is a Life Skills Instructor for area High Schools. In addition, Mr. Walker is an Executive Board Member for the Community Call to Action & Accountability, an organization which was formed to stop police brutality and gang violence.
Mr. Walker is an avid admirer of the work that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other civil rights leaders have accomplished; however he realizes there is so much more work to be done in the Los Angeles communities. Mr. Walker will not stop his work for justice until the senseless gang violence ceases, police brutality is no more, all citizens have shelter and proper medical benefits; and drugs are no longer tearing apart families.
