Marcus Pope
Associate Director
Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community

Mr. Pope will co-facilitate the workshop on Supervised Visitation and Safe Exchange, scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, March 20, 2007.

Marcus Pope has served as the Associate Director of the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC) since June of 2006. Pope has a rich background in non-profit management, project management and direct services through community-based programs. His professional experience has focused primarily on serving African Americans and other underserved populations.

Prior to joining IDVAAC, Pope served as a teaching assistant and academic advisor for Youth Studies, School of Social Work , at the University of Minnesota . In this role, under the leadership of Dr. Michael Baizerman, Pope assisted with curriculum development, teaching and research. This included assisting with an international research project in Belfast , Northern Ireland focused on Youth Work in Violent and Contested Spaces. Simultaneous to this work, Pope also served as a program director for a multi-service non-profit agency in Minneapolis , MN .

In 2005, Pope became increasingly interested in domestic violence through coordinating the development of an online curriculum focused on domestic violence in the African American community. This curriculum, sponsored by the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, was developed for the Violence Against Women Online Resources (VAWOR) website. Through this project, Pope worked under the leadership of the late Ann Kranz in collaboration with IDVAAC and Dr. Oliver J. Williams.

In addition, Pope has been very active in the Twin Cities community, he has served as a Volunteer in Corrections (VIC) for Ramsey County , MN and a board member for three local non-profit organizations. Pope holds a Masters degree in Education, with an emphasis in Program Evaluation.
